Celebrating Passover in a time of plague gives it particular resonance

In a profile in the Valley News, Religion Professor Susannah Heschel, who holds the Eli Black Professorship of Jewish Studies and Chair of the Jewish Studies Program, discusses celebrating Passover in a time of plague, as when the Jews escaped Egypt and plagues were visited upon Egypt, and today, when we are facing the plague of the novel coronavirus. “This moment is very much about that,” Heschel said. "Passover gives us an opportunity to express our deepest fears and yearnings in a concrete way.”
