Biography
Edward Slingerland is Fellow, Royal Society of Canada, Distinguished University Scholar and Professor of Philosophy at the University of British Columbia, where he also holds appointments in the Departments of Psychology and Asian Studies. From January-June each year he serves as Visiting Professor in the Department of Religion at Dartmouth, and he is also the founding director of the Database of Religious History (religiondatabase.org).
Prof. Slingerland is an expert on early Chinese thought, comparative religion and cognitive science of religion, big data approaches to cultural analysis, cognitive linguistics, digital humanities and humanities-science integration. His latest book, Learning to See: Literature and the Cultivation of Moral Perception, explores the intersection of early Confucian virtue ethics, literature and ethics and the science of perception.
