Jeremy Sabella

Lecturer

Professor Sabella has been a lecturer and thesis advisor at Dartmouth since 2017, and has consistently received student praise. Professor Sabella studies religion and politics in the post-World War II era. His first book, An American Conscience: The Reinhold Niebuhr Story, examines the life and legacy of twentieth-century ethicist, theologian, and social critic Reinhold Niebuhr. The book serves as a companion volume to An American Conscience, the award-winning documentary on Niebuhr, for which Sabella was a lead consultant. The film was featured on PBS and has been screened at universities around the country. His next book in progress, God, Country, and Communism, examines the theological underpinnings of the Cold War and explores how the apocalyptic and religious language used to frame Cold War conflict persists in contemporary U.S. and Latin American politics. He has taught at Boston College, Yale Divinity School, and Kalamazoo College.
